Kheris Rogers is a 10-year old girl who was bullied for having dark skin. Her 22-year old sister started a spark by posting photos of her online with the hashtag #FlexinInHerComplexion. The original tweet went viral, racking up over 83,000 likes. The reaction made Kheris feel better and encouraged her to start her own line of clothes.
The clothing line, called Flexin’ In My Complexion, has made Kheris more confident and allows her to encourage others who have dark skin. She says that wearing her t-shirts makes her feel strong. You’re going to want one of these for yourself.
Meet Kheris Rogers
At only 10 years old, Kheris has endured bullying for the color of her skin. “And kids used to bully me because they weren’t used to my skin tone,” says Kheris.
Her older sister, in an effort to make her feel better, tweeted a photo of Kheris with the following: #FlexinInMyComplexion.
The tweet, which read, “My sister is only 10, but already royalty #FlexinInHerComplexion,” did make Kheris feel better. And inspired her!
Her sister’s tweet went viral and inspired Kheris to start a line of clothing to inspire other girls who are bullied for the color of their skin.
“I feel confident in it myself because, even if I still get picked on because I’m darker, when I put on the T-shirt, it makes me feel bold,” says Kheris.
Kheris hopes that when she wears her t-shirts, she is inspiring other girls to feel comfortable in their skin.
Kheris says, “It doesn’t matter how dark or light you are, just knowing that it’s beautiful and that your complexion doesn’t determine your beauty.”
Using her Experience
Though she’s young, Kheris has used her bullying experiences to help others, and her t-shirts are just one way she’s doing that.
Learn a Lesson
We can all learn a lesson from Kheris and her sister. “I just hope that especially for younger kids, people start to feel more confident in their skin,” says Kheris’ older sibling.
