Aaron Zenz is a picture book creator and father of six. And at the end of the previous school year, he asked kids from around the state of Michigan to send him various monster designs. When the final count was tallied, he received about 3000 drawings in total. He spent much of the summer choosing 150 eventual designs that he would recreate with colored pencils employing the exact techniques that he uses for creating picture books.
His collection is currently on display in Grand Rapids, Michigan outside the Children’s Museum. His work is featured on the ArtPrize.org website where new designs are constantly being added as kids continue to submit original artwork. Aaron loves to illustrate new designs live on-site using artwork submitted the day before.
The name of the project is “Monsters Go” and here are 18 of our favorite illustrations.
