Depression is a mental health condition characterized by hopelessness, loss of joy with life and sometimes suicidal thoughts or actions. There are many ways to treat the condition and art is one of them. Dawid Planeta is a Polish artist who battles his depression by painting.
His project is a series of works that depict a man traveling through the jungle meeting his fears and weaknesses head on along the way. The result is dark and mysterious, a perfect rendering of what depression feels like. Despite the driving force of the paintings, the work is surprisingly beautiful.
Anyone who suffers from depression is likely to relate to what the paintings show, but even someone without the illness can see beauty and poignancy in Planeta’s work. You can see more on his Tumblr account here: minipeople.tumblr.com.
